Alex Johnson Has Championship Ambitions for Prowlers
The Port Huron Prowlers have officially announced Alex Johnson’s return to the blue line for the 2026-27 season. It will be his ninth season playing for the Prowlers and sixth as the assistant general manager and assistant coach.
“I couldn’t be more excited to get started this season,” Johnson said. “To have the group we have coming back makes it even more special. Port Huron has become a place where players want to be, and I think that says a lot about the culture we’ve built here.
“The guys in this room make it easy to put on a Prowlers jersey and put your body on the line for the guy next to you. We believe in each other, we compete for each other, and everyone knows what’s expected when you put that jersey on.
“There’s only one goal for this group this season. We know what it takes to get there, and we know it won’t be easy. But with the group we have in this room, we’re ready to go to work and bring a championship back to Port Huron.”
On the ice last season, Johnson led all Prowlers defensemen with 46 points on 10 goals and a team-high 36 assists. Five of his goals came on the power play and he finished +12, the third-highest mark of his career. The 35-year-old missed eight of Port Huron’s 56 regular season games after sitting out of just two total games over the previous five seasons combined. Johnson appeared in all six playoff games.
2026-27 will be Johnson’s 11th in the FPHL after beginning his career with the Brewster Bull Dogs in 2015-16 and Danbury Titans in 2016-17 and he may reach more career milestones later in the season. The two-time FPHL All Star is 48 games away from 500 in the league and 39 points from 400. Along with his FPHL experience, Johnson spent the 2019-20 season with the SPHL’s Birmingham Bulls.
“It’s hard to envision the Prowlers organization without Alex Johnson in it,” said Prowlers associate head coach Chris Paulin. “Johnny does a tremendous amount behind the scenes that has not only allowed us to operate, but continue to advance the organization. When we talk about people who bleed Prowler red, Johnny is certainly high on that list.
“On the ice, his competitiveness and will to win are unmatched. His progress over the last couple seasons has been very rewarding to watch. He’s been an elite defensemen in this league for a long time, but the patience, maturity, and discipline he’s added has taken his game to a whole new level. With the work Johnny has put in during the summer, I expect his best season ever.”
