Catching Up With The Goalies

The Port Huron Prowlers are proud to announce the return of goaltenders Cory Simons, Blake Scott and Chris Paulin for the 2020-21 FPHL season. Our very own Jeremy Skiba caught up with both netminders to see how quarantine has treated them and to get to know a little bit more about them.

Cory Simons:

Q: What have you been doing to stay active/busy during quarantine?

A: I moved from Minnesota, where I live in the summer, to Port Huron about a month and a half ago. I've been skating with guys from the team who are here. We all skate with other pro/college/junior guys (seasons are also delayed) in Mt. Clemens two to three times a week. Besides that, I’ve been doing the typical off-season working out and hanging with teammates.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?

A: I’m looking to build off what we had at the end of the year. We picked up some great acquisitions and a lot of us were returning from SPHL loans. I don’t know if the rest of the league understood how our team progressed and how good we were going to be.

Q: What made you choose to be a goaltender?

A: A generic answer would be the cool equipment, but honestly, I love the pressure of either succeeding or failing and being responsible for that failure. I think that really pushed me into the position.

Q: If you could play one sport professionally besides hockey, what would it be and why?

A: Standing out in right field collecting 10 million dollars a year sounds pretty relaxing.

Q: What is your favorite movie and why?

A: I don’t know if I have a favorite but one, I could watch on constant repeat is definitely "Step Brothers".

Blake Scott:

Q: What have you been doing to stay active/busy during quarantine?

A: Since the end of the season I have been taking full time care of my grandma and nine-month-old son but I still manage to get on the ice a couple times a week.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?

A: I’m looking forward to continue the momentum that we had at the end of last season.

Q: What made you choose to be a goaltender?

A: My dad was a goalie and my coach. I started playing ice hockey at age five, and the team I was playing on needed a goalie. We finished in first place that year and since then, it has been my passion.

Q: If you could play one sport professionally besides hockey, what would it be?

A: If there was another sport I could play, it surely would be golf. It’s a game pretty easy on the body but requires a strong mental game much like goaltending.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: Miracle. My favorite movies are when the underdog defeats his opponent, against all odds. Miracle has the perfect plot for me personally to give me inspiration to go against all odds.

Chris Paulin:

Q: What have you been doing to stay active/busy during quarantine?

A: Just working out as much as I can, hanging out with family and watching the Bills every Sunday!

Q: What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?

A: I’m very excited to be back with the boys and to play in front of the best fans in league! I also couldn’t be more excited to be back with Matt Graham. I have so many questions to ask him!

Q: What made you choose to be a goaltender?

A: Growing up in Buffalo, my favorite player was Dominik Hasek. So, around the age of seven, I convinced my dad to let me play goalie full time.

Q: If you could play one sport professionally besides hockey, what would it be?

A: Basketball! I think it’s such a fun sport to play. If I can just grow another foot or two, I think I could switch over haha.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: Definitely “The Town.” Purely because I get to fire quotes back and forth with my man Bryan Parsons!
