Portillo Scores Twice, Prowlers Down Ice Breakers, 4-2

The Port Huron Prowlers topped the Mentor Ice Breakers 4-2 Friday night to earn their first road win in regulation.

The game started off fast and physical on both sides until Zach Zulkanycz found the back of the net, putting the Prowlers up 1-0.

The period would end with Port Huron up 1-0. However, the Prowlers second period may have been the best they played all season.

Justin Portillo would score off of an assist from Austin Fetterly, putting the Prowlers up 2-0.

Dalton Young would continue the Prowlers scoring, beating Mentor goalie Austyn Roudebush over his right pad with a backhanded shot to extend Port Huron’s lead to 3-0

Portillo again would be set up by Fetterly, finding the back of the net again to make the score 4-0.

The Ice Breakers would score twice in the third, but it wouldn't be enough as the Prowlers defeated the second place Mentor team, 4-2.

“We just came in with a good game plan,” said Fetterly. “We were all on the same page, everything was clicking. We had a lot of structure to our game.”

Fetterly, found the tape of his teammates all night, recording assists on three of the Prowlers four goals.

“Playing the last few years with [Portillo], we’ve developed a little bit of chemistry together,” said Fetterly. “We kind of know what each others tendencies are, I know he likes to crash the net and that's where I found him twice.”

Portillo, who scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, played a gritty game, winning corner battles, and blocking a key shot during the Ice Breakers comeback attempt in the 3rd period.

“I’m willing to put my body on the line any night for this team,” said Portillo. “Whether it be blocked shots, big hits or small things like that can make all the difference.”

The Prowlers will take on the Ice Breakers again, Saturday at 6:30 at the Mentor Ice Arena for the final match up of the weekend series.
