Prowlers Add Three Ahead of Opener

The Port Huron Prowlers have added three players ahead of their opening weekend matchups against the Binghamton Black Bears. Former Buffalo State Bengals Tory Button, Ryan Messing and Aidan LaValley will suit up for Port Huron in Binghamton.

“While we are awaiting P-1 approval for our import players, we were able to add some very solid pieces to help out,” said Prowlers general manager Matt Graham. “[Associate head coach Chris Paulin] did a great job finding these guys and getting them here. We are excited to have them join our group.”

Button, a defenseman, has spent the last four full seasons in the SPHL after turning pro with the Birmingham Bulls following his final collegiate year in 2021-22. Last year, he had three assists in 47 games for the Knoxville Ice Bears. Over his career, the Royal Oak, Michigan native has 20 points in 195 career SPHL games. He also appeared in three contests for the Elmira Mammoth in 2022-23 and captained Buffalo State as a senior.

Messing, a forward, had a goal and three assists for four points in 11 games as a senior last year at Buffalo State. He finished his college career with seven goals and 12 points in 50 games over four years. Messing played juniors in Michigan with the USPHL Premier’s Metro Jets.

LaValley, a forward, pitched in an assist in 16 games last season for the Bengals after missing all of 2024-25 with injury. He had a strong first two seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24 as he was named to the SUNYAC All-Rookie Team after 13 points in 22 games as a freshman before putting up 16 in 25 games as a sophomore.
