Prowlers best Wolves in Shootout

by Jay Harris

WATERTOWN, NY - The Watertown Wolves hosted the Port Huron Prowlers at the Watertown Municipal Arena Saturday night.

Branden Parkhouse scored his first goal of the night while killing former Wolf Corey Scott's tripping penalty. The former Prowler Dustin Jesseau quickly tied things up for the Wolves on the same power play with assists from Anton Lennartsson and Tyler Gjurich. It looked like the period would end in a tie, but Parkhouse beat the buzzer with a shot to top shelf to end the period with a 2-1 score for Port Huron.

The Prowlers extended their lead on a goal from Matt Graham. Tyler Gjurich closed in on the gap when he scored with assistance from Matt Caranci and Dustin Jesseau. With just twenty-four second left in the period Matt Caranci went top shelf to tie the game up with assists from Dustin Jesseau and Kyle Powell to make the score 3-3.

Dalton Jay put the Prowlers back in the lead in the first six minutes of the third period. Anton Lennartsson went coast to coast on the ice to tie the game back up and send it into over-time.

Neither team scored in over-time and the game went to a shootout. Austin Daae scored in the second round of the 5-round shootout. When the Wolves failed to score in the third-round confusion ensued and the Prowlers thought it was game over. After much deliberation, the shutout continued. Two goals from Tyler Gjurich and a goal from Branden Parkhouse sent the game into sudden death. Parkhouse scored again, and Gjurich was unable to replicate with a goal of his own, giving the Prowlers the win.

The first star of the game went to Branden Parkhouse for the game-winning goal. Jesseau earned the second star for his efforts in getting 3 points for the Wolves during the game. Anton Lennartsson earned the third star for his contributions to two Wolves' points.

These teams will have a rematch at the Watertown Municipal Arena on Friday, December 22 at 7:30 pm.
