Series Preview: Prowlers, Rockers Open Season

The Port Huron Prowlers and Motor City Rockers kick off their regular seasons with a pair of games at McMorran Place on Oct. 20 and 21. It will be the second year in a row the I-94 Rivals square off to open the schedule.


The Prowlers begin the regular season after dropping a 4-2 decision in their exhibition contest with Motor City. 10 players who dressed in that game are still with the team as of Thursday. Tristan Simm scored a power-play goal in that game and Makar Sokolov made 22 saves in 30:24 of work. The team also added Ian Wallace in net this week for his third stint as a Prowler. This will be Port Huron’s ninth FPHL season.


The Rockers came out on top of the exhibition matchup thanks to two goals from Pavel Svintsov, who was named the first star of the game. Dante Suffredini added a pair of assists while Ricky Gonzalez made 15 saves in 30:24 of ice time. Motor City is beginning its second season as a franchise.


PLAYERS TO WATCH

Prowlers - Dalton Jay (F) - Jay led the Prowlers with 33 goals and 68 points last season. He’ll need to keep the scoring up with the team’s other 30-goal scorer, Joe Deveny, retiring.


Rockers - Trevor Babin (G) - Babin went to the Kalamazoo Wings’ ECHL camp but was released this week. He was the backbone of Motor City last season and will be a major key to success this year.

Dalton Jay (PHP) scored the game-winning goal in last year’s season opener between these two teams…Dante Suffredini (MCR) led the Rockers with 36 assists last season…The Prowlers are 4-4 in season openers and 4-4 in home openers in franchise history…The Rockers lost their only season opener in franchise history last season to Port Huron
